"The wealth of the wise is their crown, but the folly of fools yields
folly." [Prov 14;24 NIV]
Some people who are
held wise do not have a crown. Sad to say, they are poor. Being
wise and poor present complications. And that, in itself, is a paradox.
How
can someone wise be poor? Can’t the wise use their wisdom to avoid poverty?
A crown is displayed
for all to see. What do poor people show off but misery and unrepaired
brokenness? It is foolish to remain poor. Poverty yields folly, and vice versa.
It is wise to be free from poverty. Wealth, then, is a result of wisdom.
The problem with 'wise
yet poor' people is that their wisdom is not heeded. In the end, they are despised. When that
happens, what would their difference be with the poor?
I think some wise
people remain poor because of missed opportunities. Others may have traditional and
religious views that keep them from embracing prosperity. It’s an
unfounded belief that money is from the devil and its possessors are on their
way to hell.
The truth that adheres to the Bible puts finances in proper perspective. Money is not the
root of all evil, but the love of it. How much money does it take to bring the good news to the poor? Financing the spread of
the Gospel is never an evil thing.
Let wealth continue
to be what it is: a crown for the wise. There are some foolish people with
crowns of wealth, but that doesn’t mean we should stop being right – being wise with
crowns.
In the end of all
pursuits for wealth and wellness, the righteous will receive a crown of glory, placed by the King Himself. Some
will just barely make it to heaven and be crownless.
Live a godly
life on earth, all the way to heaven. Conduct a life worthy of a crown
and know that the Father walks in streets of gold.
