“They came to the house
where the child was and saw him with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and
worshiped him. They opened their gifts and gave him treasures of gold,
frankincense, and myrrh." (Mat 2:11 NCV)
When Jesus was about 2
years of age, a group of Magi came to where He was, opened their treasures, and
gave lavishly to Him. This enormous gift financed His childhood, and maybe even
up to His early adult life.
Pastors can also receive treasures from strangers. That even in the infancy of
their ministry, people will open their wealth, and give generously to the work
of God through His servants. Holy angels will lead these sowers to the
God-called, and multitudes will worship God because the pastor has now come, in
obedience to a fulfillment of destiny - a lifework of evangelism and
discipleship.
Sidelight: Mary and
Joseph did not use Jesus' gifts to buy a grand house and be idle about.
Joseph still worked as a carpenter, and passed the trade to his sons. A love-gift
is primarily for ministry, and not for personal gratification.
