"How, then, can they call on the one they
have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not
heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can
they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the
feet of those who bring good news!"" (Rom 10:14-15 NIV)
And how can they be sent if they are not financed? Pastors are recipients of
monetary resources to accomplish the will of God - primarily to bring about the
salvation of people, and then to disciple the converted. If God’s people will
not do their part to sow their seed, the Great Commission will barely be
accomplished.
“I also discovered that
the Levites had not been given what was due them, so they and the singers who
were to conduct the worship services had all returned to work their fields.” (Neh 13:10 NLT)
When the
people of Israel neglected the affairs of the church, the Levites returned back
to secular work. Today, when God’s people neglect their devotion to the Lord in
tithes and offerings, some pastors are forced to have a day job to meet their
family needs. And that takes them away from their real jobs.
Pastors are
endangered species. They need to be preserved, and returned to the
wild. Not
everyone is called to the full-time ministry, but ALL Christians are called to
serve.
