“Stay in that house, eating and drinking whatever
they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house
to house." (Luke 10:7 NIV)
The Lord Jesus Himself said that pastors are worthy of their wages. But what
kind of wage was
it?
"Elders who provide
effective leadership must be counted worthy of double honor, especially those
who work hard in speaking and teaching." (1Ti 5:17 NET)
The Apostle Paul called it “Double Honor.” Pastors are worthy of double honor.
According to Biblical standards, pastors should work very hard. They faithfully
take care of God’s people, and God faithfully takes care of them and their
families. God is more faithful than all of us.
The Bible also qualifies the recipients of double honor. Just because
someone claims to be a 'pastor' doesn't mean they are worthy of our gifts.
There is no excuse and reason to be unproductive. Pastors should work and match
the worth of a double honor, and in due time, God will promote their wage
through the people. God works through us all.
