When Jesus walked this earth, He was
not poor. In fact, on the day of His physical death, He wore a garment woven
from one single thread.
"When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his
clothes, dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the
undergarment remaining. This garment was seamless, woven in one piece from top
to bottom." (John 19:23 NIV)
It is a kind of clothing worn by the rich, a high-quality fashion. Even though
it was blood-stained, the soldiers still gambled for it. They were not thinking
of using it as a rug, because they didn't want to tear it to pieces.
Pastors can also dress nice and with high-quality material. This truth is not an
excuse for excesses, but awareness for propriety and what is fitting for God's
servants - with wisdom, in reference to their congregations. They stand as
models and examples of dignity, inspiring the church to wear their Sunday best when
coming into the house of God. The Lord, in His Excellency and Royal Highness, is worthy of our best.
