The Evangelism and Discipleship of the Last Days

This is not awareness to ‘stop what you are doing,’ but a reminder and encouragement to engage in evangelism and discipleship.

“…but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Heb 10:25b NIV)

This is what we have been saved and empowered for. We have been saved to share God’s saving grace, the fulfillment of the Great Commission.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, {20} and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Mat 28:19-20 NIV)

If the only goal was to be saved, then we should have been rapturedright after the prayer of acceptance. God turned on the switch in our hearts, so we can be the light of the world. We are an eye-catching light among a people living in darkness. As they turn their attention to us, they should see us pointing to Jesus. The Lord also spiced us up with salt. It is not the kind of saltiness that ‘preserves’ men in their sin, but a taste that produces thirst and hunger for the Living God. We are saved to make people crave for God.

We have been empowered to inspire people to have faith on Christ’s finished work on the cross. You are God’s agent of change, but never a secret agent.

"What you'll get is the Holy Spirit. And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the world." (Act 1:8 MSG)

Not everyone is called to cross-cultural missions, but every Christian and disciple of Christ is called to be a witness - right where they are. God wants you. Giving and pledges have their place and role in missions, but God still wants you. He does not need your money; He wants you. The Lord of the harvest expects us also to pray for workers to go into the harvest field of humanity. Please take time to listen to the call of the Lord.

Each one can reach one, one at a time, extending the borders of God’s kingdom to the hearts of men, one heart at a time, in every opportune time.

We are living in the Last Days. Evangelism and discipleship are for thenow. We could be living in the last second of the last minute of the last hour of the Last Day. The period of grace is coming to a close, winning souls and follow-up will soon cease to operate. It will be then over.

“But those people who keep their faith until the end will be saved. The Good News about God's kingdom will be preached in all the world, to every nation. Then the end will come.” (Mat 24:13-14 NCV)
